6 Basic Types Of Lighting Fixtures

Apart from the wallpapers and uniquely colored painted walls, lighting can be one of the most striking features in a house. Although it might seem a minor addition, but one cannot imagine its overall impact on the vibe of the property. So, if you are looking to transform your space with ceiling light fixtures and hanging light fixtures, you need to be aware of the light fixtures types that will make others envy your house.

1. Ceiling-Mounted Fixtures

As the term suggests itself, ceiling light fixtures are installed to the ceiling and are typically made of fabric, glass, or plastic shade with the bulb installed inside, allowing the light to distribute evenly. Ceiling-mounted fixtures are usually installed in relatively large properties and add luxury to the house. Since they are designed to throw dispersed lighting, ceiling-mounted fixtures are preferred by many homeowners.

2. Pendants

Pendant lighting refers to the lights that are attached to the ceiling but use a chord or any other type of attachment to hang closer to the ground. These lights usually come with a bulb installed inside a shade-throwing the light in a downward direction. Furthermore, pendant lights are typically installed in the kitchen or over a table to focus on the task at hand. As compared to ceiling-mounted fixtures, pendants tend to be more stylish and bring character to space.

3. Recessed Lighting

Recessed lights then again are installed in the ceiling. These lights are installed in a way that the wiring along with the body of the bulb is hidden inside the ceiling. Unlike the ceiling-mounted fixtures, recessed lights are more like hidden as they are on a level with the ceiling. However, installing recessed lights requires around 4 to 8 inches of space above the ceiling.

4. Track Lighting And Spotlights

Track lights and spotlights are basically fixturing that are also mounted to the ceiling with the help of a track usually hung off the ceiling. However, it depends on the type of fixture. The liner housing in the track allows adjustment so that the light can be focused on different directions. This makes it an ideal option for kitchens and gallery spaces that aim to highlight different projects.

5. Wall Sconces

Wall Sconces are comparatively new entrants in the market and tend to be one of the most decorative lighting fixtures. They can be installed to throw light in either upward or downward direction. Furthermore, wall sconces are generally installed at eye-level in most rooms. However, these lighting fixtures are usually not powerful enough to light a large space.

6. Desk And Table Lamps

Desk and table lamps happen to be lightweight and can be shifted to different locations as required. Moreover, they are typically designed to throw light in a downward direction, focusing on a particular area, which is directly below. Since they are quite decorative, adding them to your living space can add to the charm of the house.

Final Word Choosing the ideal lighting fixtures depends on your living space and the type of vibe you want to set in your house. If you want the house to give off an energetic and bright look, you can go for the ceiling-mounted fixtures. However, if you wish to lay low, then table lamps and wall sconces will suffice.
